Many women are concerned about breast cancer. Maybe the leader is Angelina Jolie and her surgeries that should eliminate risk of this problem. Some things, like family history you cannot change, but you can do several things that can lower the risk of breast cancer.

Changing lifestyle is very effective, even on high-risk women. The first thing you should do is to eliminate alcohol. Women who drink it have higher chances of developing breast cancer. If you really like alcohol, don’t drink more than one drink per day. In the same category are cigarettes. Beside they are harmful for your entire body, they are linked with breast cancer, especially in premenopausal women.

Overweight or obesity, also can increase the risk of this disease. They are even more dangerous after menopause. This can be solved with regular physical activity. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, you should have at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity weekly. In this case you can do easier exercises. You can achieve the same effect with vigorous aerobic activities in 75 minutes weekly. Strength trainings should be done twice a week.

Other ways to reduce risk of developing breast cancer include: breastfeeding (the longer you breastfeed the longer you will have protective effect), limit dosage of hormone therapy (hormone therapy longer than 3 years is linked to higher risk of breast cancer) and avoid exposure to the environmental pollution and radiation. According to older studies, birth control pills were linked to increased risk as well. But newer studies haven’t linked them, so we can assume that they don’t affect on the risk of breast cancer. The most important thing you can do is to have regular visits to the doctors.
